Life in Cambodia through the eyes of LeBoost’s editor
You have to register to see pics in high res.Gabrielle Yetter is a woman of many talents.
It is barely mid-year, yet she has already added two new books to her repertoire of published works.
The Sweet Tastes of Cambodia, her book on traditional Cambodian desserts, hit the shelves in early 2013. A few months later, she published The Definitive Guide to Living in Cambodia, which shot to the top of Amazon within days of its launch.
Critics lauded it for being a "sojourn into the heart of Cambodia, as seen through sensitive eyes and across several years and many miles of exploration."
"You’d easily recoup the cost of the book with the money you saved just by reading the paragraph on the fair cost of a ride to town from the Phnom Penh airport", said another reviewer.
Gabrielle moved to Phnom Penh in 2010 with her husband, Skip, and navigated her new environment with curiosity. Since then, she has explored provinces, studied Khmer, worked at an NGO, taught a creative writing class and penned numerous articles about Cambodia.
In 2011, she was hired by Leboost to write its first guide and is still writing it today.
"The focus of the Cambodia guidebook was not to be a travel guide to this country," said Gabrielle. "I wanted to get across the diversity and contrasts of this country and how to navigate your way around, whether you’re a visitor wanting to know how to address someone respectfully, an expat looking for networking opportunities or an armchair traveller wanting to learn about the culture and personality of Cambodians."
"While I love this country and all its quirky charms and delights, I also realise it is not for everyone and wanted readers to get a flavour of how things really work here."
The Definite Guide is available on Amazon (and soon to be released in hard copy). The Sweet Tastes of Cambodia is available at Monument Books, International Book Centre, Lotus Blanc, The Flicks cinemas and a host of restaurants around Phnom Penh.
